English: The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the Toy Train, is a 2 ft narrow-gauge railway based on zig zag and loop-line technology.It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.All the steam locomotives currently in use on the railway are B-Class, built by Sharp, Stewart and Company and later the North British Locomotive Company between 1889 and 1925. A total of 34 were built, but by 2005 only 12 were still in use or being repaired by the railway.Four diesel locomotives are in use: Nos. 601–2, 604 and 605 of the NDM6 class, transferred from the Matheran Hill Railway.
বাংলা: দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেল পশ্চিমবঙ্গের শিলিগুড়ি থেকে দার্জিলিং শহরের মধ্যে চলাচলকারী একটি ২ফুট ন্যারো গেজ রেল পরিষেবা। এই রেল টয় ট্রেন নামে সমধিক পরিচিত। দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেল ভারতীয় রেল কর্তৃক পরিচালিত।
১৮৭৯ থেকে ১৮৮১ সালের মধ্যবর্তী সময়ে নির্মিত এই রেলপথের দৈর্ঘ্য ৮৬ কিলোমিটার (৫৩ মাইল)। এর উচ্চতার মাত্রা শিলিগুড়িতে ১০০ মিটার (৩২৮ ফুট) এবং দার্জিলিঙে ২,২০০ মিটার (৭,২১৮ ফুট)। আজও এটি বাষ্পচালিত ইঞ্জিনে চলে। দার্জিলিঙের মেল ট্রেনের জন্য ডিজেল চালিত ইঞ্জিন ব্যবহার করা হয়। ১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেলকে বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যের তালিকাভুক্ত করে। ২০০৫ সালে নীলগিরি পার্বত্য রেলকেও এর সঙ্গে বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যের তালিকাভুক্ত করা হয়। |
