We are doing three main projects at the moment; the Wikipedia:Kernow page which lists all the towns, villages and existing hamlets in Kernow; a possible update to the main page; and an infobox for UK places which is based on the infobox used on the Sowsnek Wikipedya. The last set of infoboxes was 10 years ago so a lot of modules and things it relies on are being imported. Emblyn II (keskows) 15:38, 28 Meurth 2018 (UTC)

How to edit event for Speak Cornish WeekChanjya

Hello, apologies for not writing in Cornish. As part of my work I'm in touch with Cornwall Council who are running some events for Speak Cornish Week 2020 (22 June to 30 June). As part of that, they've asked if we can run a how to edit Wikipedia workshop. The week itself is fully booked, so we're looking at the option of having the training as two one-hour sessions the week after (dates TBC) and drawing people's attention to it during Speak Cornish Week.

I can talk to people about why Wikipedia is important and the mechanics of editing (ie: these are the buttons to press) and I was wondering if anyone from the community wanted to join and maybe talk for a couple of minutes about the Cornish Wikipedia.

Notifying some recently active editors (hope that's ok): Vishantkv, Aqchampion, Gazamp, Gaudio, Gwikor Frank, Sambrown1993, Sotiale, НСНУ. --Richard Nevell (keskows) 19 Met 2020 da 11:56 (UTC)

Hi, I don't mind helping out but I've only been editing here for a month or two and my Cornish is barely passable so if any of the more experienced editors can do it, I'll yield to them. Thanks, Gazamp (keskows) 21 Met 2020 da 17:16 (UTC)
I'd be willing, but although my Cornish is decent, I don't know a great deal about Wikipedia editing yet. I'm pretty much at the basic "translate an article and add links" stage. Lowena dhis, Gwikor Frank 21 Met 2020 da 20:58 (UTC)
Thanks for the replies, Gazamp and Gwikor Frank. What might be nice is if you could say a little bit about why you started editing? The first of the two sessions will be on Monday 29 June, starting at 4pm (BST). I can send you the details of how to join on the day (we'll be using Zoom), but I'd be happy to have a quick chat about it before hand if either of you want to. Richard Nevell (keskows) 24 Met 2020 da 16:35 (UTC)
Sure, absolutely. Chatting beforehand sounds good to me. Perhaps you could send me an email? [REDACTED] is my address. --Gwikor Frank (keskows) 24 Met 2020 da 22:23 (UTC)
Yeah, same. I think you can email me through Wikipedia? If not I can tell you it here. Thanks, Gazamp (keskows) 25 Met 2020 da 17:11 (UTC)

German broadcast video availble to translate into Cornish and other languagesChanjya

Hi there These videos are availble for translation and reuse from German documentaries at ZDF, and are in use on German Wikipedia:

I've made the same suggestion of translation to the Latin and Welsh Wikipedias. If there is interest I will perhaps try to organise getting transcripts in German / English for translation and addition of target language audio. JimKillock (keskows) 20 Met 2020 da 09:58 (UTC)

Proof of concept, video of Roman roads with German and English subtitles. From here, Cornish subtitles could easily be added, and then a second version of the video with Cornish audio added. Then, the same can be done with any of the other videos, there are around 100.
Das Straßennetz im antiken Rom (CC BY 4.0)
Hey, JimKillock, I had a go at doing this! There should now be playable Cornish subtitles for the Roman roads video you posted here! --Gwikor Frank (keskows) 21:31, 8 Gortheren 2020 (UTC)

Celtic Knot Wikimedia Language ConferenceChanjya

The Celtic Knot Conference takes place on 9 and 10 July. It's an online event and is jointly organised by Wikimedia Community Ireland and Wikimedia UK. There will also be satellite events taking place between 6 and 12 July. The programme is a mixture of live sessions and prerecorded talks.

The conference aims to bring people together to share their experiences of working on sharing information in minority languages. We aim to help people learn how to direct the flow of information across language barriers and support their communities. As in previous years we will have a strong focus on Wikidata and its potential to support languages.

Registration is open now, so please register on Eventbrite.

Online session next week for Celtic language editorsChanjya

Sorry for posting this message in Sasanach! Join us in November for a Celtic Knot-focused community discussion on the next ten years of the Wikimedia movement.

We'll run a 2 hr online meeting for editors and community organisers working on Celtic languages (Breton, Cornish, Irish, Manx, Scottish Gaelic and Welsh) to discuss priorities and wishes we have about the future of these communities. Is improving user experience a priority? How about better safety and inclusion? Or developing community leaders within your wiki? Let's discuss what's most important for your community to thrive.

You don't need to be a top contributor - a desire to help your community, is enough! Hope to see you there. Register by filling in the form below and we'll follow up with joining info a few days in advance. Link to register here. Robin Owain aka Llywelyn2000 (keskows) 13:34, 9 Du 2020 (UTC)

Aqchampion, Boghblogh, Brwynog, DavydhT, DiworthNorth, Gazamp, Gourmas, Gwikor Frank Taking the liberty of pinging some editors so they're aware of the above. Richard Nevell (keskows) 15:56, 10 Du 2020 (UTC)

Great to see so many of you there on Zoom yesterday! A few weeks ago, I started to work with DavydhT on the Wikidata lists. As I have a db of 265 names (mostly from Avionary), and as we have Brwynog (chair of bird naming standards on Cymraeg) I thought maybe we could work on getting new stub articles on birds which the community can develop further? , It's been 11 years since I created one of the first templates on kw-wiki: Skantlyn:Yethow keltek, I also have the bird names in the other Celtic languages, so they too could be added on the articles. I've started a wikiproject: Wikipedia:Wikiproject ydhyn! Llywelyn2000 (keskows) 06:09, 15 Du 2020 (UTC)
There's a little bit on my user page about animals and plants, including a project we did in the Cornish Language Office with zoo animals Devnydhyer:DavydhT/Kyst_Tewes/Ragdres_Milva, some of these articles are only stubs but some actually quite detailed. More recently, I've surveyed the Cornwall Wildlife trust calendars, and noted them as potential articles here: Devnydhyer:DavydhT/Kyst Tewes/Kalendar Trest Bewnans Gwyls Kernow. I'm now looking at the terminology lists for plants and insects that Akademi Kernewek worked on and I added to the dictionary last year. DavydhT (keskows) 08:32, 15 Du 2020 (UTC)
Bendigedig Davydh! I'm preparing templates for a WD infobox on species, and have started a Wikiproject (Wikipedia:Wikiproject ydhyn), so the Talk page can outline our modus operandi! Translation requests etc... Is there a term for 'Wikiproject' in Kernowek? if not, can we coin one? Llywelyn2000 (keskows) 09:10, 15 Du 2020 (UTC)
I've actually been looking at the terminology plants list too! What a weird coincidence. I've been slowly getting the Cornish names into wikidata when I'm not writing my #kwikiwrimo challenge articles. --Gwikor Frank (keskows) 12:40, 20 Du 2020 (UTC)

As an aside from the Wikiproject birds, the code for places and things named after saints is here on Peran. Just change Peran's Qid to the new saint's Qid and it should work on all articles on saints etc. Llywelyn2000 (keskows) 16:13, 15 Du 2020 (UTC)

Semi automated Infobox now on the Rudhek article (image, birdsong audio, aucn classification, map etc). Thanks Skantlyn:Ping for joining the Wikipedia:Wikiproject ydhyn! Llywelyn2000 (keskows) 16:33, 26 Du 2020 (UTC)

Collective / singulative nounsChanjya

One of the things I came across when sketching out possible articles in the area of animals and plants is that some of these are collective nouns which add a -en for the singulative. Devnydhyer:DavydhT/Kyst_Tewes/Kalendar_Trest_Bewnans_Gwyls_Kernow, Devnydhyer:DavydhT/Kyst Tewes/Plansow, Devnydhyer:DavydhT/Kyst Tewes/Hwesker. Should the article title in general be the collective or the singulative (e.g. Gwenen or Gwenenen for w:en:Bee)? DavydhT (keskows) 09:10, 17 Du 2020 (UTC)

My gut is to say collective. You're looking up bees, all of bees, the concept of bees, rather than just one bee. :) --Gwikor Frank (keskows) 12:37, 20 Du 2020 (UTC)
